About me

Hi, I’m Buddhika Chandrasuriya 🙂

I’m Sinhala (Sri Lankan) Australian and I live in Lake Macquarie, NSW on Awabakal land.

I have always loved creating things. My favourite ways to create right now are drawing and collage and I also like sewing and textile design. (For several years I have owned and designed ethical texiles for children via https://buddhikas.com).

Everything I create is heavily influenced by how I see the world and what I feel are deep resonances from my heritage. I like to create things that give a feeling of energy and connection within the universe and joy through colour (or, what I call ‘colour-joy’). To me, all living things are connected to each other and to the natural world. I enjoy symbolism and most of my drawings feature suns and moons, which are culturally significant symbols and also references to my name, ‘Chandrasuriya,’ which in Sanskrit means moon-sun: Chandra (moon) + suriya (sun).

I think the process of creating is equally important to what you create.
